Ok! Here is our third mind bending Nicaragua release from the great Luis Alberto - this time we have a natural processed Red Catuai variety from his second farm, Finca Un Regalo De Dios.

Stephen from The Coffee Quest reached out with excitement to get these samples into my hands and I totally understand why. These are easily, some of the most vibrant and cleanest honey and natural processed coffees I've ever had from the Americas.

As told by Stephen: In total, the farm is 179 acres, with around 130 acres planted in coffee. Of those 130 acres of coffee, Luis grows the following varieties: Red & Yellow Catuai, Pacamara, Maracaturra, Java, Bourbon, SL-34, Catimore and some Hybrids. The farm is situated in the municipality of Mozonte (in the community of Quisuli) and the clouded forest creates a micro climate with temperatures ranging from 10 degree to 16 degrees celsius.

Finca Un Regalo de Dios has a loose sandy soil, with abundant humus and has an annual rainfall of between 1,400mm and 1,600mm. In addition, the farm has a rich biodiverse environment of fauna and flora, with an abundance of broad-leaved trees and conifer species. All of this together, creates for optimal coffee growing conditions.

Luis Alberto received 6th place in the COE this year, 3rd place in the COE in 2022, 6th place in 2021, 1st place in 2020, 1st and 5th place in 2018, as well as 3rd and 13th place in 2017…. he is no stranger to producing exceptional coffees! This is our sixth year working with Luis Alberto and every year his coffees are amongst the most fun that we work with!

The cup profile of this lot is so juicy! We get hit with classic Mott's apple juice tartness with some pear-like sweetness.  These malic qualities are paired with a citric acidity that pops like a lemon sparkling water or seltzer.  There are some nice caramels and molasses foundational flavors that are present, but quiet throughout the cup.  A super fun and easy sipping natural that celebrates the Red Catuai variety throughout!

So grateful to Stephen from The Coffee Quest for getting these three beautiful NIcaraguan lot's into our hands.  You will certainly see a return of these coffees with this upcoming harvest... but for now, dig into our final drop of this series!
