Woooo! So excited to be working with Luis Alberto and his farm Finca La Bendición for the second straight year. This is our second release from him this year which a beautiful naturally processed lot of the Pacamara variety. You can expect an impressive, complex, crisp, bright, and clean natural that really makes a statement as to how dialed Luis' process is from cherry to mill.
As told by Stephen: Finca La Bendicion is located in the Dipilto-Jalapa mountain range in Nueva Segovia, Nicaragua and consist of 105 acres planted with coffee. Of those 105 acres in coffee, Luis Alberto, the manager, grows the a handful of varieties, like Caturra, Red Catuai, Hybrids, Villa Sarchi, Pacamara, Maracaturra, H-3, Marselleza, SL-34 and Java. In addition, the farm has a rich biodiverse environment of fauna and flora, with an abundance of broad-leaved trees and conifer species. All of this together, creates for optimal coffee growing conditions.
The care and processing that goes into every lot is second to none, with careful detail at every stage. Luis Alberto received 6th place in the COE last year, 3rd place in the COE in 2022, 6th place in 2021, 1st place in 2020, 1st and 5th place in 2018, as well as 3rd and 13th place in 2017…. he is no stranger to producing exceptional coffees! This is our sixth year working with Luis Alberto and every year his coffees are amongst the most fun that we work with!
The cup profile of this lot is both super approachable and complex. Great for the fan of naturals but also is clean enough for those who approach them with some caution. This big bean variety packs a super grape-y profile but is accompanied by a bright, tart red fruit quality that we pick up as pomegranate. This tart and slightly effervescent aspect of the cup is weighted by a round cherry sweetness and coating mouthfeel.
This is a gem. If you snagged any of the lots from this farm last year you know how dynamic and impressive these naturals are... and if not, here's a chance to sip something truly unique and excellent!
