Woooo! Finca La Bendición Honey Pacamara was a absolute hit. And now we have our second Pacamara offering from Luis Alberto's farm, this time naturally processed and let me tell you.... this coffee absolutely SLAPS.
Stephen from The Coffee Quest reached out with excitement to get these samples into my hands and I totally understand why. These are easily, some of the most vibrant and cleanest honey and natural processed coffees I've ever had from the Americas.
As told by Stephen: Finca La Bendicion is located in the Dipilto-Jalapa mountain range in Nueva Segovia, Nicaragua and consist of 105 acres planted with coffee. Of those 105 acres in coffee, Luis Alberto, the manager, grows the a handful of varieties, like Caturra, Red Catuai, Hybrids, Villa Sarchi, Pacamara, Maracaturra, H-3, Marselleza, SL-34 and Java. In addition, the farm has a rich biodiverse environment of fauna and flora, with an abundance of broad-leaved trees and conifer species. All of this together, creates for optimal coffee growing conditions.
The care and processing that goes into every lot is second to none, with careful detail at every stage. This Honey lot starts by bringing the cherries to the wet mill after careful picking. They are then floated and de-pulped and immediately taken to Beneficio Las Segovias to be laid on African Beds to dry for 21 to 25 days.
Luis Alberto received 6th place in the COE this year, 3rd place in the COE in 2022, 6th place in 2021, 1st place in 2020, 1st and 5th place in 2018, as well as 3rd and 13th place in 2017…. he is no stranger to producing exceptional coffees! This is our sixth year working with Luis Alberto and every year his coffees are amongst the most fun that we work with!
The cup profile of this lot is so incredibly unique - mainly do to this bubbly effervescent acidity that I seldom find in natural processed coffees. Add to the fact that it's a Pacamara hailing from Nicaragua just adds to the romance of what's in the cup. I get a ton of tropical fruit sweetness that vividly brings me back to the tropical starbursts packs alongside a kiwi-like acidity that is lively as ever. Notes of cherry round this fruited, but super balanced cup out.
This is a gem. Pinching myself that I'm able to get my hands on coffees like this and share them with you all. Enjoy!
